Our client, a retail centre in Knysna, Western Cape, is looking for a Retail Security Guard to prevent theft and ensure a safe shopping environment. You will patrol the mall, monitor customer behaviour, apprehend shoplifters according to legal procedures, and assist with emergency evacuations. Retail security experience is preferred. Responsibilities Control access to buildings and sites by verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining an accurate access register. Respond promptly to alarm activations, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action including escalation to armed response or law enforcement. Conduct regular patrols of the assigned premises on foot or by vehicle, checking for security breaches, hazards, and suspicious activity. Provide excellent customer service to clients, tenants, and visitors while maintaining a firm and professional security presence. Monitor CCTV camera feeds in real time from a control room, identifying and responding to any unusual or suspicious activity. Write detailed and accurate incident reports describing security events, observations, and actions taken for management review. Assist with emergency procedures including fire evacuations, medical emergencies, and crisis situations according to established protocols. Requirements Grade 12 certificate is preferred; Grade 10 may be acceptable for certain entry-level positions. Good written and verbal communication skills to write reports and interact professionally with clients and the public. Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct foot patrols, and respond quickly to incidents. A clear criminal record is mandatory and subject to regular review as per PSIRA requirements. A valid driver's licence is required for armed response and patrol positions. The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure in emergency or high-stress situations.
